Asansol, India
Asansol is a metropolitan city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the second largest city, after the state capital, Kolkata, and the most populated city in West Bengal. The main religion in Asansol is hinduism, followed by Islam and Christianity.
In light of the pandemic, West Bengal has a total of 1.52 million cases and 18,085 deaths. The rural areas are harder hit as they lack information, technology, and communication, and have no access to COVID-19 testing or vaccination. Many have developed serious symptoms, causing a rapid spread in the rural population, where basic medical facilities are absent or non-accessible to them.
How RiverLife has been working with this Community
Providing daily rations in Asansol
RiverLife Church has partnered with the AOG Church of Asansol in reaching out to the local and rural churches, where some have lost their church members to Covid-19. Through daily rations and medical resources, we are meeting their immediate needs; and through prayer meetings and relationships with the Indian Pastors, we hope to lend strength and hope to them.
In July to October 2021, at the height of the Covid 19 Pandemic period, many families were struggling financially. There was a fear of becoming infectious with Covid 19 and a fear of lack of food as many suffered from a loss of income during this period.
RiverLife committed to raising $35,000 to provide Covid 19 medical aid and one month ration of food for 500 families.
Our missions team initially found this figure challenging. However, we felt God saying that He would multiply our 5 loaves and 2 fish as we offered our time, energy, gifts and talents to Him. Our team stepped out in faith, gave sacrificially and we were truly amazed when we finished the fundraising effort with a total amount raised of $152,799, 5 times more than our initial faith goal.
We also saw God at work as we ministered to the pastors and their churches via Zoom, Lives were touched as we prayed and prophesied into their lives.
How are we working with the community in MFH 2022?
Provide Humanitarian Relief Aid
Due to the loss of jobs, many do not have the finances for their daily meals, and much less for basic medical aid or school supplies. Though many Pastors have sacrificed and given their resources to the poor in the community, it is still not enough.
Collect donations to provide for their immediate needs and distribute food, medication, and basic necessities to the poor in two church communities.
Equip the Local Churches and Leaders
We believe that God can work powerfully, even through digital platforms.
Conduct online equipping sessions for the local churches and leaders in Asansol once a month.
Virtual House Visits with Local Pastors
Partner with pastors in Asansol in some of their ministry home visits. As we hear the needs of the families themselves, we are given the opportunity to minister to them directly, and bring spiritual and emotional restoration through these sessions. We believe that God can work powerfully, even through digital platforms.
Join us to give prayer ministry for families through pastoral home visits over Zoom. Pray for the sick and minister to families through home visits once a month.
